Never Like The Movies

He showed up at her door, holding heart in hand
Seven years had brought him back, to where he chose to stand

She never asked a question, never thought again
She simply held him in her arms and felt what was her man

The tears burned hot upon him, she held him oh so tight
She knew the years had worn him, but he was here tonight

She never asked a question, she simply let him in
The sweetest gesture of pure love is where it must begin

The perfect little ending, would cut after this scene
But life is not the movies, in fact, it's very mean

Happily ever after, is simply not the truth
As much as it is wanted, I've got some other proof

The question's finally raising, "Where have you been this long?
What could have made you leave me? Why have you done me wrong?"

The past is never distant, our demons never sleep
We never get to run away from what hides in us deep

It boils to the surface, the rears its ugly head
It will keep fighting to expose until the day we're dead

The only way to change, is move on from the past
And hope it never catches up, it's moving very fast

When knowing there's no option, to just confess it all
For nothing good can come of truth, it only makes a fall

We must take up our shovels, dig a whole so deep
And hope it's guarded close enough, for our past to keep

Out of public eye, out of notice too
Deep enough and dark enough die along with you

For happily never after, is apparent from the proof
There'll always be more tests involved, you KNOW I speak the truth.
